Custom for ALIVE

The Brief

Two custom looks built for movement, sweat, and light. Designed for the ALIVE tour - Static and Liraz performing to thousands - these garments had to survive a two-hour show every night and still look like they meant something.

Materials and Process

I deconstructed denim and hand-dyed fabrics in the studio, building oversized silhouettes that catch stage light and move with the body rather than against it. The denim was vintage. The dye was mixed in buckets on the studio floor.

Designing for the Stage

Stage costume is a different discipline. The garment has to read from fifty metres away. Seams have to hold through choreography. Fabrics have to breathe under heat. I approached it the same way I approach everything - alone, by hand, with materials that have already lived one life.
