Materials and Construction

One hundred percent reused Napa leather - not a single new hide. I collected it from old jackets, bags, and furniture, then cut it into irregular shapes and stitched them together into a patchwork that maps its own history. Scars, creases, and colour variations are left visible. Nothing is hidden.

The lining is pieced together from my mother's old T-shirts - cotton that still carries the shape of someone who wore it.

The Story Behind the Dress

The name came first. A crying wedding dress: a garment for a moment where joy and grief sit in the same room, wearing the same thing. I built it during my final year at Shenkar, cutting and sewing entirely alone. Where will you be, Mom, when I get married? That question lives inside this dress. The leather is the skin. The T-shirts are the memory. The tears are built into the structure.

Part of the "I Love You Mom" graduation collection, dedicated to my late mother Chani Galilee. I designed it and sewed every piece of it by hand.

Presented at the Shenkar College of Design graduation show, 2024.
